Spring Leaf Rake-Out and Sanitation Schedules

The Milwaukee Department of Public Works (DPW) has officially activated its special spring leaf collection cycle to address debris left over from the previous winter season. Residents are advised that they have until Sunday, March 15, 2026, to rake leaves into the street for collection. To ensure efficient pick-up and prevent drainage issues, leaves should be placed in the street with a one-foot gap maintained from the curb. The final collection cycle for these loose leaves is scheduled to begin on Monday, March 16.

For those who prefer bagging, DPW is also accepting leaves in compostable paper bags. Residents must submit a specific request for bagged collection via the city’s mobile application or by calling the city service line by the March 15 deadline. Additionally, the city has announced that reservations for neighborhood cleanup dumpsters will open tomorrow, Monday, March 2. These 20-cubic-yard "weekend boxes" are intended for community-led cleanup efforts occurring on Saturdays from mid-April through June. Reservations are limited to two boxes per organized group.

Health Department Advisories and Restaurant Closures

The Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) has issued a mandatory closure notice for The Wicked Hop following a series of inspections. Inspectors reported active health code violations that require remediation before the establishment can resume food service. The facility is expected to remain closed through the remainder of the weekend as it works with professional pest management services to meet city health standards. A follow-up inspection will be required before the suspension is lifted.

Furthermore, health officials continue to monitor community wellness following a resolved measles exposure case at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport. While the immediate risk has passed, the MHD encourages residents to remain vigilant for symptoms such as high fever, cough, and a red rash, particularly if they have a history of travel or potential exposure in high-traffic transit hubs. Public health clinics remain open for those seeking updated vaccinations or health screenings.

Financial System Maintenance and Public Meetings

The Office of the City Treasurer has issued a service alert regarding the property tax payment portal. Residents are notified that online and telephone payment systems for property taxes and special improvement bills will be unavailable starting Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. This scheduled downtime is necessary for critical database maintenance and system updates. Services are expected to be fully restored by Tuesday, March 10. During this period, taxpayers may still utilize the 24-hour drop boxes located at City Hall and various police district stations.

In legislative news, the Milwaukee Common Council is scheduled to convene for its next regular meeting on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. in the Common Council Chambers. The agenda includes discussions on various departmental appointments and infrastructure projects. Residents are welcome to attend in person or view the proceedings live through the city’s official cable channel.
