One dead in shooting outside Deer District’s new Landmark Credit Union Live music venue

Shooting reported near newly opened Deer District venue
A man was shot and killed late Saturday in downtown Milwaukee, in the area of West Vel R. Phillips Avenue near the Deer District entertainment zone and the city’s newest indoor concert venue, Landmark Credit Union Live.
The fatal shooting was reported about 11:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of West Vel R. Phillips Avenue. The victim was identified as a 47-year-old man. Police reported two suspects were being sought as the investigation continued.
What is known so far
The shooting took place on a block of Vel R. Phillips Avenue that runs along the Deer District area, near Fiserv Forum and the new music hall site.
The victim, 47, was pronounced dead after being shot.
Investigators reported two suspects were believed to be involved and asked the public to provide tips.
Venue opening brought large crowds to the same area
The shooting occurred during the first weekend of operations for Landmark Credit Union Live, a new 4,500-capacity concert venue built on land associated with the former Bradley Center site in the Deer District. The hall’s first concert was held Friday, Feb. 27, 2026, when Rainbow Kitten Surprise performed to a sold-out crowd.
That opening-night schedule coincided with other downtown events, including a Milwaukee Bucks home game at nearby Fiserv Forum and high school hockey playoff action at UWM Panther Arena, contributing to high foot traffic within a compact area.
Broader context: a high-activity entertainment corridor
The Deer District has developed into a multi-venue downtown destination anchored by sports and live entertainment. Landmark Credit Union Live was designed as a mid-sized indoor room with a flexible, ballroom-style concert layout and is expected to host a steady calendar of events through 2026. Its location—along a dense corridor of arenas, bars, and event spaces—means major nights can draw overlapping crowds before and after shows.
What to watch next
Investigators have not publicly detailed a motive, whether the shooting involved attendees of nearby events, or how the suspects and victim may have been connected. Police have also not released information on arrests in the case.
Anyone with information has been asked to contact Milwaukee Police or submit tips anonymously through local tip channels.
As the venue begins regular operations, the shooting is expected to intensify scrutiny on late-night security conditions in and around one of Milwaukee’s busiest entertainment districts.
