City Notice Roundup: N. 76th Street Reconstruction Begins and Spring Cleanup Reservations Open

Major Infrastructure Project: N. 76th Street Resurfacing
The City of Milwaukee and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation have announced that a major $13.4 million resurfacing project on N. 76th Street (WIS 181) officially commences today, Monday, March 2, 2026. This extensive infrastructure initiative covers a 4.5-mile stretch from Florist Avenue north to the County Line Road. Residents and commuters should anticipate significant traffic impacts, including reduced travel lanes and occasional single or double lane closures in both directions.
The project aims to improve long-term pavement durability and pedestrian safety. Key features of the construction include:
- Upgrades to 12 signalized intersections for improved traffic flow.
- Installation of new sidewalks and enhanced pedestrian curb ramps to meet ADA compliance.
- New pavement markings and updated signage throughout the corridor.
While access to local businesses and residences will be maintained, drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes or allow extra travel time. The project is scheduled for completion in late fall 2026.
Public Service: Spring Neighborhood Cleanup Reservations
The Milwaukee Department of Public Works (DPW) begins accepting reservations today, March 2, for the 2026 Spring Neighborhood Cleanup program. Residents can now request 20-cubic-yard "weekend boxes" (dumpsters) for organized community cleanup efforts scheduled for Saturdays between April 18 and June 20.
To qualify for a cleanup box, organizers must coordinate a neighborhood-wide effort; these containers are strictly prohibited for use by individual households, businesses, or institutions. Reservations are limited to two boxes per weekend per organizer, and boxes will be placed on accessible street corners between 2 a.m. and 10 a.m. and removed after 4 p.m. to prevent illegal dumping.
Health Advisory: Restaurant Safety and Public Health Updates
The Milwaukee Health Department continues to monitor food safety compliance following the temporary closure of The Wicked Hop due to pest activity identified during recent inspections. While the establishment has been working with licensed pest management professionals, re-inspections are scheduled for this week to ensure all health code violations are rectified before operations can resume.
Additionally, health officials remind residents to remain vigilant regarding seasonal wellness. While previous measles exposure alerts at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport from earlier this year have been resolved, the department encourages all residents to ensure their vaccinations are up to date.
Upcoming Public Meetings
Citizens are encouraged to participate in the following scheduled municipal sessions:
- Historic Preservation Commission: Meeting today, March 2, at City Hall to discuss local landmark designations.
- MPS Budget Community Meeting: Scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Riverside University High School to discuss the 2026-27 school year priorities.
