What happened

A 15-year-old girl was injured in a shooting late Thursday night on Milwaukee’s north side, in an incident investigators described as a double shooting near North 17th Street and West Capitol Drive.

Emergency crews responded at about 9:20 p.m. The Milwaukee Fire Department transported the teen to Children’s Wisconsin for treatment. Police reported the suspect or suspects were unknown and remained at large as the investigation continued.

Scene response and early investigation

Milwaukee police have not released details about what led up to the gunfire, how many shots were fired, or whether the victims knew one another. Authorities also have not publicly identified the second person wounded in the double shooting, nor have they provided ages or updated conditions beyond stating the teen was taken to the hospital.

In the initial hours after the incident, police focused on securing the area and collecting evidence. As in many shooting investigations, detectives typically seek nearby video, witness statements, and physical evidence that can clarify the sequence of events and potential routes used by a fleeing suspect.

Why double shootings complicate casework

Cases involving multiple victims can present additional challenges for investigators. Two injured people may have different vantage points, timelines, or accounts of what they saw and heard. Determining whether the victims were targeted, caught in crossfire, or involved in a dispute can take time—especially when suspects are not immediately identified at the scene.

Public safety and information requests

Police asked anyone with information to contact the Milwaukee Police Department at 414-935-7360. Tips can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 414-224-TIPS or via the P3 Tips app.

Police are seeking unknown suspects and are asking the public to share any information that could help identify who was responsible.
