Public Meetings and Governance

The City of Milwaukee has several key committee meetings scheduled for today, Wednesday, February 4, 2026. Residents are encouraged to participate in person or via the City Channel live stream. The Finance and Personnel Committee will convene at 9:00 AM in City Hall, Room 301-B. Simultaneously, the Granville-Havenwoods Advisory Council will hold a virtual session starting at 9:00 AM to discuss neighborhood development and safety initiatives. Later this evening, the Board of Health is scheduled to meet at 5:00 PM in City Hall, Room 301-A, to review the latest community health assessments and infectious disease monitoring protocols.

Traffic and Infrastructure Alerts

Commuters are reminded of two major road reconstruction projects that went into effect earlier this week. The 27th Street Viaduct is now closed for a significant multi-month reconstruction project. Motorists should follow posted detours and expect increased travel times in the surrounding area. Additionally, work has officially begun on the North Oakland Avenue corridor between East Capitol Drive and East Glendale Avenue. This project, which includes roadway reconstruction and the replacement of lead service lines, is expected to continue through December 2026. While one lane of traffic will generally remain open, parking on Oakland Avenue within the work zone is strictly prohibited.

Community Health Advisories

The Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) has issued an advisory following a confirmed case of measles in neighboring Waukesha County. Public health officials note that individuals who may have been exposed between January 25 and February 2 should begin self-monitoring for symptoms starting today, February 4. Symptoms typically emerge 10 to 21 days after exposure; if you develop a high fever or a cough, please call your healthcare provider before visiting a clinic to prevent further transmission. Furthermore, a statewide health alert remains active regarding a recall of Moringa Leaf Powder due to potential Salmonella contamination. Residents are advised to check their pantries and discard any affected products immediately.

Public Service Announcements

The Milwaukee Health Department is pleased to announce that the Keenan STI Clinic is on track to reopen this month following its temporary closure for facility improvements. Residents seeking services in the interim should contact 211 for a list of alternative community clinics. In arts news, Summerfest and American Family Insurance have officially announced the recipients of the 2026 Let the Music Play grants. Eight local organizations, including El Puente High School and the Ko-Thi Dance Company, have been selected to receive funding for new instruments and music education curriculum.
