Official City Notices: Property Tax Deadline and Winter Service Updates

Public Notice: 2025 Property Tax Payment Deadline
The City of Milwaukee Office of the City Treasurer reminds all property owners that the deadline for the first installment or full payment of 2025 property taxes is today, Saturday, January 31, 2026. To avoid interest and penalties, payments must be received or processed by the end of the day. As today falls on a weekend, residents are encouraged to utilize the following contact-free payment methods:
- Online Payments: Electronic payments can be made through the City Treasurer’s website using a credit card or ACH transfer. Please note that convenience fees may apply for credit and debit card transactions.
- 24-Hour Drop Boxes: Secure drop boxes are available at City Hall, the Zeidler Municipal Building, and all Milwaukee Police District stations (Districts 2 through 7). Payments placed in these boxes by 11:59 p.m. today will be considered timely.
- Telephone Payments: Automated telephone payment services remain available for those who prefer not to use the online portal.
Failure to make at least the minimum installment payment today will result in the entire tax bill becoming delinquent, subject to a monthly interest and penalty charge of 1.5%.
Winter Parking and Snow Removal Regulations
The Department of Public Works (DPW) reminds residents that winter parking regulations remain in effect citywide through March 1. Unless a Snow Emergency is specifically declared, standard night parking rules require vehicles to follow alternate side parking regulations between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Residents must ensure they have a valid night parking permit or have requested temporary permission to avoid citations.
Additionally, property owners are required by city ordinance to clear snow and ice from sidewalks abutting their property within 24 hours after a snowfall. For the 2026 season, the Common Council has established a Snow and Ice Removal Cost Recovery Charge of $1.19 per foot of street frontage. This fee will be assessed if the city is required to clear a sidewalk that has remained non-compliant after the 24-hour grace period.
Department of Public Works: Christmas Tree Collection
Today, January 31, is the final day for residents to request curbside collection of real Christmas trees. Requests must be submitted via the MKE Mobile Action app or by calling the city service center. Trees should be placed at the regular collection point and must be clear of all lights, ornaments, and stands. After today, residents must transport trees to a city Drop-Off Center for disposal.
Public Health Advisory: Seasonal Safety
The Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) advises residents to remain vigilant following recent extreme cold advisories. While temperatures have stabilized, officials recommend checking on elderly neighbors and ensuring that heating systems are vented properly to prevent carbon monoxide buildup. Furthermore, residents should be aware of a confirmed measles case in neighboring Waukesha County and a national recall of certain 'Super Greens' dietary powders linked to salmonella infections. Public health clinics remain open for routine vaccinations and health screenings.
