Official City Bulletin: Special Council Session and Public Health Advisories

Milwaukee Common Council and Public Meetings
The City of Milwaukee has scheduled a special meeting of the Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee for Friday, January 30, 2026. The meeting is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. in City Hall, Room 301-B. This session follows a series of legislative updates, including the recent launch of the "Know Your Rights and Resources" portal, an official initiative by the Common Council to provide legal support and preparedness toolkits for residents navigating federal immigration enforcement concerns.
Public Health Alerts and Advisories
The Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) have issued several critical notices active as of late January 2026:
- Measles Alert: Health officials have confirmed a case of measles in the neighboring Waukesha County. Given the highly contagious nature of the virus, Milwaukee residents are urged to verify their vaccination status.
- Salmonella Recall: An active advisory remains in place regarding "Live it Up" brand Super Greens powder following several hospitalizations. Residents are advised to discard any remaining product immediately.
- 2025 Community Health Assessment: The MHD has released the 2025 Community Health Assessment, providing a comprehensive snapshot of the city's health priorities for the 2026 fiscal year, including chronic disease prevention and maternal health.
- Clinic Notice: The Keenan STI Clinic remains temporarily closed for renovations, with a scheduled reopening set for February 2026. Residents seeking services are referred to community partner clinics.
Department of Public Works (DPW) Winter Regulations
Standard winter parking regulations remain in full effect throughout the city. Residents are reminded that alternate side parking rules apply to most residential streets from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. On even-numbered calendar days, vehicles must be parked on the side of the street with even house numbers; on odd-numbered days, they must be parked on the odd side. Parking is strictly prohibited on designated bus routes and through-highways during these hours to ensure clear passage for emergency vehicles and salt trucks.
The Milwaukee Water Works also advises homeowners to take precautions against frozen pipes. Following recent extreme cold, residents should ensure that water meters and pipes in unheated areas are properly insulated. If a pipe is frozen, it is recommended to use a hair dryer or heating pad rather than an open flame to thaw the line.
Public Service Announcements
The Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee is hosting an "Ask a Lawyer" session at the Dominican Center today, Friday, January 30, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. This service provides free legal assistance regarding housing and estate planning. Additionally, residents are notified of a scheduled public demonstration at Cathedral Square Park this afternoon; travelers should expect minor traffic delays in the downtown area.
