Official City Bulletin: Public Safety Alerts and Infrastructure Updates

Public Health Notice: Temporary Restaurant Closure

The Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) has issued an official Order to Cease Regulated Food Sales for The Wicked Hop, located in the Historic Third Ward. Following a routine inspection on February 25 and a follow-up on February 26, 2026, health officials documented active pest concerns in the kitchen and shared basement areas. The establishment remains closed to the public while management works with licensed pest control services to meet city health codes. A reinspection is required before the facility can resume operations.

Executive Order: Flags at Half-Staff

By order of Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, all flags at city and county facilities are to be flown at half-staff through Saturday, February 28, 2026. This observance is in honor of the late Reverend Jesse Jackson, a transformative civil rights leader. Residents and local businesses are encouraged to join in this mark of respect for his lifelong dedication to equity and justice.

Infrastructure Alert: 27th Street Viaduct and Sewer Relays

The Department of Public Works reminds residents that the 27th Street Viaduct remains closed for significant structural repairs. Commuters should continue to use designated detour routes. Additionally, official notices are active for the following utility projects:

  • Sewer Main Relay (Project No. 1): Ongoing work on N. 6th St. (near W. Vienna Ave.) and N. 39th St. (W. Fairmount to W. Lancaster Ave.).
  • Water Main Alterations: Active construction on N. 68th Street involving lead service line replacements.
  • Stump Grinding and Forestry: Tree border restorations are currently focused on the South Forestry District, bounded by I-94 and W. Oklahoma Ave.

Community Health Advisory: Measles Monitoring

Following a confirmed measles exposure at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport earlier this month, the MHD continues to offer free MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccinations at all city clinics during walk-in hours. While the primary monitoring period for immediate exposure has concluded, health officials urge residents to verify their immunization status through the Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR).

Upcoming Public Meetings

The city encourages public participation in the following upcoming sessions:

  • MPS Budget Hearing: Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Casimir Pulaski High School (2500 W. Oklahoma Ave.). Leaders will discuss the 2026-27 fiscal plan and classroom investments.
  • Infrastructure Planning: Recordings are now available for the Sherman Boulevard construction staging webinars for residents impacted by upcoming North Sherman Boulevard historic district projects.
