Public Health Advisory: Measles Exposure at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport
The City of Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) has issued a critical update regarding a confirmed measles exposure linked to a traveler at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport. Residents who were present at the airport on January 29, 2026, between 10:31 p.m. and 12:31 a.m., or who traveled on Southwest Airlines Flight WN 266 from Phoenix, are urged to verify their vaccination status immediately.
Health officials advise all potentially exposed individuals to monitor for symptoms through February 19, 2026. Symptoms include high fever, cough, runny nose, and a red rash. If symptoms develop, please contact a healthcare provider by phone before arriving at a clinic to prevent further transmission. Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccines remain available at MHD clinics at no cost for those who are uninsured or underinsured.
Legislative Update: 'ICE Out Milwaukee' Package Introduced
The Milwaukee Common Council is currently reviewing the 'ICE Out Milwaukee' legislative package, a series of proposals aimed at protecting residents and ensuring transparency. Introduced earlier this week, the legislation includes resolutions to bar federal agents from using city-owned property for enforcement operations and requirements for law enforcement officers to remain unmasked and display identification during public interactions. The package also proposes the creation of an Office of New Milwaukeeans to assist immigrant families. These items are currently being assigned to the appropriate committees for formal review and public testimony.

This closure affects through-traffic and requires commuters to utilize posted detours. Public transit users should check with the Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) for route adjustments. Additionally, the city is currently seeking bids for several municipal service contracts, including topsoil delivery and psychological evaluation services, with deadlines approaching next week.
