Charges filed after Feb. 4 Oakbrook Terrace shooting

An Illinois prosecutor has filed three counts of first-degree murder against a 19-year-old Milwaukee woman in connection with a fatal shooting in Oakbrook Terrace, a western suburb of Chicago. The case centers on the death of Obaidulla F. Shareef, who was found shot inside a vehicle in the parking lot of an office building.

Authorities have emphasized that the criminal complaint reflects allegations, not proof of guilt, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

What investigators say happened at 2 Trans Am Plaza Drive

Police were dispatched at approximately 6:06 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026, to the parking lot of 2 Trans Am Plaza Drive in Oakbrook Terrace after an initial report of a vehicle crash. When officers arrived, they found a person inside a vehicle suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Paramedics attempted lifesaving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. The investigation has involved Oakbrook Terrace police, the DuPage County Metropolitan Emergency Response and Investigative Team (MERIT), the DuPage County Coroner’s Office, and the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Officials described the incident as isolated and said investigators did not identify an ongoing danger to the community based on the information available at the time of the announcement.

Suspect identified in Milwaukee and held pending extradition

Authorities identified the suspect as Akrystal Woods, 19, of Milwaukee. Officials said she was located and taken into custody in Wisconsin on Feb. 5, 2026, without incident. She has remained in custody in Wisconsin while awaiting extradition proceedings to DuPage County, Illinois.

Public records and official statements have reflected minor differences in how her name is listed, including the use of “C-Woods” in some court records. Law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation have publicly identified her as Akrystal Woods.
