Police issue critically missing alert for Milwaukee man

Milwaukee police are asking for the public’s help in locating 37-year-old Marvin Common-Harris, who has been listed as a critically missing person. Police said he was last seen at about 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2024, near North 70th Street and West Hampton Avenue on Milwaukee’s northwest side.

Authorities released a physical description and last-known clothing in an effort to generate tips quickly. Common-Harris is described as standing about 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing roughly 160 pounds, with black hair, a mustache, a medium complexion and brown eyes. Police said he was last seen wearing a brown winter coat, brown pants and black shoes.

What “critically missing” signals in Milwaukee cases

In Milwaukee, a “critically missing” designation is used when police believe there is an elevated concern for a person’s safety and the public may be able to assist with timely information. Such alerts are often issued when investigators need rapid community awareness, including reports from residents, businesses and transit riders who may have seen the person or may have relevant video footage.

Police have not released details about what circumstances led to the critically missing classification in this case. Investigators commonly withhold certain information early in a search to protect the integrity of the investigation and to better assess the credibility of incoming tips.

How the public can help without compromising the search

Police urged anyone with information about Common-Harris’ whereabouts to contact Milwaukee Police District 7 at 414-935-7272. Tips may also be directed to the Milwaukee Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Bureau at 414-935-7360 during overnight hours.

  • If you believe you have just seen Common-Harris, call 911 to request an immediate welfare check.

  • If you have surveillance footage from doorbell cameras or business security systems near 70th and Hampton from late morning through the afternoon of March 30, preserve it and notify investigators.

  • When providing a tip, be prepared to share the time, location, direction of travel and any identifying details, including clothing and companions.

Anyone with information about Common-Harris’ location is asked to contact Milwaukee Police District 7 or the Criminal Investigations Bureau.

What comes next

Missing-person investigations can evolve quickly as new information is confirmed. Police typically update the public when a person is located or when new verified details can be released to assist the search.
