Police ask public for help identifying man shown in newly released footage

Milwaukee police are asking for assistance identifying and locating a suspect wanted in connection with the sexual assault of a child reported on February 14, 2026. Investigators released video and images of the suspect as part of an effort to generate leads from the public.

The suspect is described as an unknown male who was last seen in the area of Washington Park. Police said the suspect’s walk appears unsteady, consistent with what they described as an ataxic gait, which can present as shaky, uncoordinated or unsteady movement.

What police have disclosed so far

Authorities have not publicly released the suspect’s name, age or other identifying details beyond the images and the noted gait. Police have also not released the victim’s identity or specific circumstances of the alleged assault, which is typical in cases involving children.

Police have not said whether the suspect is believed to be connected to other incidents, nor have they announced an arrest. The release of video indicates investigators believe the suspect may be identifiable through recognition by residents, business owners, or others who were in the area around the time of the reported assault.

How sensitive-crimes investigations typically proceed

Crimes involving child sexual assault are generally investigated by specialized personnel trained to handle evidence collection, interviews, and victim safeguarding. Such investigations can involve reviewing surveillance footage, canvassing for witnesses, collecting forensic evidence when available, and coordinating with prosecutors as a case develops.

In many cases, public requests for help are used when a suspect remains unidentified after initial investigative steps, or when police believe community information could quickly narrow down an identity, location, or pattern of movement.

How to provide tips

Milwaukee police said anyone with information should contact investigators directly. Police also provided options for anonymous reporting through Crime Stoppers.

  • Contact Milwaukee Police Department: 414-935-7401
  • To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers: 414-224-TIPS
  • Anonymous submissions are also accepted through the P3 Tips app

Police emphasized that the public should call 911 in an emergency or if the suspect is seen and there is an immediate threat.

The investigation remains active. Police asked residents in and around Washington Park to review any security or doorbell camera footage from February 14, 2026, and to share information that could help identify the person shown in the released images and video.
