How critical missing alerts typically work
In Milwaukee, missing-person investigations are treated as time sensitive and can be reported immediately; there is no mandatory waiting period before contacting police. Police encourage families to have a recent, clear photograph available and to be prepared to share last-known-direction details and other information that can guide an early search.
Wisconsin uses multiple public-alert tools for missing people, depending on circumstances and eligibility criteria. Those can include AMBER Alerts in cases where law enforcement believes a child has been abducted and is in immediate danger, and other alert types designed for different risk categories. Not every missing-child report qualifies for an AMBER Alert, even when public assistance is requested.

What residents can do
Police are urging anyone who may have seen the child, has information about possible destinations, or can provide details about last known movements to call immediately. Even small details—such as the direction of travel, a known hangout location, or a possible companion—can help investigators verify sightings and narrow search areas.
Residents are reminded not to approach or detain anyone they believe may match the description; instead, they should call police and provide location and observation details so officers can respond.
