What happened during the pursuit

Milwaukee police say a teenager is accused of fleeing a traffic stop at speeds that reached about 100 mph before a crash that left one person dead and multiple others injured. Investigators allege the driver was operating a stolen vehicle and did not have a valid driver’s license.

The case centers on a late-night police pursuit that began when officers attempted to stop a Hyundai reported stolen earlier in the weekend. Authorities allege the vehicle was also connected to an armed robbery report made after the theft.

Crash details and injuries

Investigators allege the pursuit ended at North 68th Street and West Silver Spring Drive, where the fleeing vehicle ran a red light and struck another car. Police said the stolen vehicle caught fire after the collision.

A 17-year-old passenger in the fleeing vehicle, identified by authorities as Jamillian Brown, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said nine people were hurt in total, with those involved ranging from teenagers to adults in their 40s. Some of the injured were taken to hospitals with serious injuries.

In court filings, investigators said they reviewed data from the vehicle’s airbag control module and concluded the car was still accelerating shortly before impact, reaching roughly 100 mph on a roadway posted at 35 mph.

Who is accused and what prosecutors must prove

The accused driver is a Milwaukee teenager. Under Wisconsin law, prosecutors in cases like this typically must establish not only that the defendant was operating the vehicle, but also the mental state required for the most serious counts, such as first-degree reckless homicide. They also must prove the link between the alleged flight from police, the driving behavior during the pursuit, and the resulting injuries and death.

In addition to homicide-related counts, the allegations include fleeing or attempting to elude an officer and causing great bodily harm. Separate allegations address driving without a valid license.

Case timeline and court developments

The crash occurred in August 2023. The case later advanced through Milwaukee County Circuit Court, where a jury found the teen guilty on multiple counts connected to the pursuit and crash. The defendant was ultimately sentenced to a lengthy prison term followed by extended supervision, reflecting the severity of the death and the number of injured victims.
