Public Meeting Set for W. Lisbon Avenue Reconstruction

The City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works (DPW) is hosting a critical business and resident meeting today, Tuesday, February 17, 2026, to discuss the next phase of the W. Lisbon Avenue reconstruction project. The open-house session is scheduled to take place from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Milwaukee Public Library, Capitol Branch, located at 3969 N. 74th Street.

This meeting focuses on the upcoming 2026 construction operations on W. Lisbon Avenue between N. 86th Street and W. Burleigh Street. Following the completion of the western section of the road in 2025, crews are prepared to begin work on this new segment in early spring. Today’s session will allow attendees to:

  • Review specific reconstruction plans and construction staging schedules.
  • Connect with the project team to understand potential impacts on local businesses.
  • Learn about temporary business sign programs designed to assist local commerce during the transition.

City officials have emphasized that this infrastructure investment is vital for the long-term safety and economic health of the corridor, though it will require significant coordination with the surrounding neighborhood over the coming months.

Board of Review Convenes at City Hall

Earlier today, the Milwaukee Board of Review convened at 9:00 a.m. in Room 301-A of City Hall. This formal session is a key component of the city’s tax administration process, providing a platform for the review of property assessments and official deliberations regarding assessment appeals.

The Board of Review acts as a quasi-judicial body, hearing testimony from both property owners and the Assessor’s Office. Today’s agenda included the review of outstanding assessment objections as the city prepares its final rolls for the current cycle. For residents, these sessions represent the primary opportunity to ensure that property valuations are equitable and accurate before tax rates are finalized.

Legislative Update: 'ICE Out Milwaukee' Package Moves Forward

In addition to today's scheduled meetings, political activity remains high at City Hall following the recent introduction of the "ICE Out Milwaukee" legislative package. Introduced by a coalition of Common Council members last week, the package has begun moving through the committee process. While the Steering and Rules Committee held its initial review yesterday, February 16, council members are expected to continue discussions today regarding the legal framework of the proposed Office of New Milwaukeeans.

The proposed legislation seeks to bar federal agents from using city property for immigration enforcement and requires law enforcement officers to remain unmasked during public interactions. Supporters, including Council President José G. Pérez and Alderwoman Marina Dimitrijevic, argue the measures are necessary to protect public safety and constitutional rights, while city attorneys continue to review the potential legal challenges associated with the move.
