A new independent hotel launches inside a familiar downtown building

Marcus Hotels & Resorts has opened The Marc Hotel in downtown Milwaukee, introducing a 175-room independent property that operates as the west wing of the Hilton Milwaukee complex. The hotel is positioned as a limited-service option designed for convention-goers and other visitors seeking proximity to the city’s convention facilities and central business district.

The opening follows months of planning announced in 2025, when Marcus said the west wing would be relaunched as a separate hotel rather than undergo the same level of reinvestment as the main Hilton renovation. The company has framed the move as a way to keep existing room capacity available downtown while preserving longer-term flexibility for potential future redevelopment of the larger hotel footprint.

Location and connectivity tied to the convention district

The Marc is connected to the Baird Center via a climate-controlled skywalk, placing it directly within the Wisconsin Center District’s convention and entertainment environment. The property is also near downtown office hubs and venues that attract year-round demand, including the arena and theater district.

As part of its operating model, The Marc is integrated with services next door: guests can access a connected parking structure and utilize dining and meeting amenities associated with the adjacent Hilton. The combined site is intended to serve overlapping markets—conventions and group business anchored by the convention center, along with transient leisure and business travel.

What the hotel offers, and how it fits into the adjacent Hilton’s redesign

The Marc’s room count includes suites, and the hotel has emphasized in-room workspaces and standard travel amenities such as complimentary Wi-Fi. Food-and-beverage options are concentrated in the shared complex, where multiple restaurants, lounges and quick-service outlets operate on site.

The opening comes shortly after completion of a major renovation at the newly rebranded Hilton Milwaukee. That project totaled $42 million and encompassed a redesigned lobby and bar, updated event facilities, and 554 refreshed guest rooms. The Hilton also markets more than 34,000 square feet of meeting and event space, reinforcing the combined complex’s role as a large-scale convention and group destination.

Why the “Marc” name returned to downtown

The Marc name revives a former identity of the building from the period after Marcus acquired the property in the 1970s, when it operated as the Marc Plaza Hotel before later adopting the Hilton flag.

By restoring the Marc branding for the west wing, Marcus is reintroducing a name with historical ties to the site while operating the space as a distinct hotel product within the broader downtown hospitality market.
