City Update: Public Infrastructure Meetings and Measles Health Advisory

Department of Public Works: Infrastructure Meetings Scheduled
The Milwaukee Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced two significant public involvement meetings scheduled for today, Tuesday, February 17, 2026. Residents and business owners are encouraged to attend to learn about upcoming construction projects and provide feedback directly to the project teams. These meetings are vital for community members to understand potential traffic impacts and the timeline for local improvements.
- W. Lisbon Avenue Reconstruction: An open-house meeting will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Milwaukee Public Library, Capitol Branch (3969 N. 74th Street). This session will detail the reconstruction of W. Lisbon Avenue between N. 86th Street and W. Burleigh Street. DPW will share information regarding construction staging and temporary business signage programs for local entrepreneurs.
- S. 9th Place Bridge Rehabilitation: A separate public meeting is scheduled from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Rocketship Stellar Elementary School (2431 S. 10th Street). This project involves the proposed rehabilitation of the S. 9th Place Bridge over the Union Pacific Railroad. While construction is tentatively slated for 2028, the city is seeking early public input on the preferred design alternatives.
Health Advisory: Measles Exposure and Vaccination Update
The City of Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) is actively responding to a confirmed measles exposure at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport. Health officials have identified six residents who were on the affected flight and have initiated direct outreach to monitor for symptoms. The department is urging all citizens to verify their immunization status. Immunization records can be accessed through the Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR).
Measles is highly contagious and spreads through respiratory droplets. Symptoms include high fever, runny nose, cough, and a red, blotchy rash. MHD reminds residents that MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella) vaccines are available at many local pharmacies and at no cost to eligible individuals at city health clinics during walk-in hours. Additionally, the Keenan STI Clinic remains temporarily closed for maintenance but is projected to reopen before the end of the month.
Winter Parking and Election Reminders
As of February 17, winter parking regulations remain in effect across the city. Residents are reminded that parking is strictly prohibited on through highways and bus routes from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. These restrictions, which run through March 1, are essential for maintaining clear routes for emergency vehicles. In the event of a declared snow emergency, alternate-side parking must be followed on side streets from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Citations for improper winter parking can range from $50 to $150.
Finally, the Milwaukee Election Commission confirms that there is no primary election being held within the city today, February 17, 2026. While some surrounding suburbs may have local races, Milwaukee residents should look ahead to the spring general election on April 7, which will feature several judicial and county-wide offices.
