Official Notice: Resumption of Overnight Parking Enforcement

The City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works (DPW) reminds residents that standard overnight parking enforcement has officially resumed as of Wednesday morning, January 21, 2026. Following the temporary suspension of regulations for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday, all winter parking rules are once again in full effect. Residents must adhere to the winter regulations that run through March 1, 2026.

  • Alternate Side Parking: On even-numbered calendar days, vehicles must be parked on the side of the street with even house numbers. On odd-numbered days, vehicles must be parked on the odd side.
  • Thoroughfares and Bus Routes: Parking is strictly prohibited on through-highways and designated bus routes between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.
  • Snow Emergencies: In the event a snow emergency is declared, these hours expand from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. across the city.

Additionally, as part of the 2026 Parking Plan, the DPW has implemented extended metered hours in downtown districts and the Third Ward, with some meters active until 9:00 p.m. to support the city's transportation fund.

Public Health Advisory: 2025 Community Health Assessment Released

The Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) has officially released the 2025 Community Health Assessment (CHA), the city’s first comprehensive health snapshot since 2022. This document serves as a critical guide for public policy and community health initiatives for the current year. The assessment identifies five key priorities for 2026: chronic disease prevention, maternal and child health, mental health support, substance use intervention, and the reduction of violence and injury.

In conjunction with this release, the MHD continues to issue seasonal safety advisories regarding extreme cold. Residents are urged to limit time outdoors and cover all exposed skin to prevent frostbite, which can occur within minutes in current conditions. Warming centers remain active across the city at various community locations through March.

Sanitation and Utility Service Updates

Due to the observance of the recent holiday, garbage and recycling collection remains on a one-day delay for the remainder of this week. Residents with a regularly scheduled Wednesday pickup should anticipate collection on Thursday, January 22. Furthermore, Milwaukee Water Works is advising homeowners to take precautions against frozen pipes by ensuring proper insulation in unheated areas of the home and allowing a small trickle of water to run during sub-zero overnight temperatures.
