City Observance: Flags at Half-Staff

Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley has ordered the flags of the United States and the State of Wisconsin to be flown at half-staff at all Milwaukee County facilities. This directive is in honor of the late Reverend Jesse Jackson, a transformative civil rights leader and minister who dedicated his life to social justice and equality. The flags will remain at half-staff through the end of today, Saturday, February 28, 2026. Residents are invited to honor his memory and his significant contributions to the ongoing pursuit of justice across the nation.

Public Health Advisories

The City of Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) is currently monitoring several health concerns and has issued the following updates:

  • Measles Investigation: Health officials continue to manage the aftermath of measles exposures identified at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport. While the primary isolation periods have concluded, the MHD and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services are still investigating linked detections in regional wastewater. Residents are encouraged to verify their MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccination records through the Wisconsin Immunization Registry.
  • Salmonella Supplement Recall: A health advisory remains active regarding "Live it Up" brand Super Greens dietary supplement powders. Multiple salmonella infections have been confirmed in connection with this product. Consumers are advised to stop using the product immediately and seek medical attention if they experience symptoms.
  • Avian Influenza Warning: Following a confirmed case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a commercial poultry flock in nearby Jefferson County, livestock owners in the Milwaukee area are urged to implement strict biosecurity measures. Public health officials note that the risk to the general public remains low.

Department of Public Works: Parking and Infrastructure

The Department of Public Works (DPW) reminds residents of significant transitions taking place this weekend:

  • Winter Parking Regulations: Today marks the final day of the seasonal winter parking rules that began in December. Starting tomorrow, March 1, many of the seasonal alternate-side parking restrictions will expire. However, residents must still comply with all year-round night parking permit requirements and specific posted signage.
  • 27th Street Viaduct Closure: The 27th Street Viaduct remains closed for major structural repairs. Commuters are advised to follow established detour routes and allow for extra travel time in the area.
  • Increased Enforcement: As part of the city’s 2026 parking plan, residents should be aware of extended metered hours in high-traffic districts and a general increase in parking enforcement activity throughout the year.

Community Reminders and Events

As Black History Month concludes today, the Common Council’s informational campaign spotlighting Milwaukee’s Black History Makers remains featured on the city’s main website and the City Channel. Looking forward, registration for the 16th annual Girls' Day @ City Hall is scheduled to open this Monday. Furthermore, the City of Milwaukee Career Fair Tour continues its progress through March 25, with upcoming sessions at various branch libraries designed to assist residents with municipal employment applications.
