City Council and Committee Meetings
The Milwaukee Common Council and various city boards have several sessions scheduled for Wednesday, February 18, 2026. Residents are encouraged to stay informed of local legislative actions by attending in person or viewing the proceedings via the City Channel.
- Licenses Committee: The committee is scheduled to convene at 9:00 AM in Room 301-B on the third floor of City Hall. The agenda features 45 meeting items, focusing primarily on the review and recommendation of business and professional licenses within the city limits.
- Equal Rights Commission: The Full Commission will hold its regular monthly meeting today at 4:00 PM. This session provides an opportunity for the commission to address ongoing civil rights and equity initiatives within the community.
Health Department Advisories
The City of Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) has issued several alerts and updates regarding public wellness and clinic operations:
- Measles Exposure Alert: In coordination with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, the MHD is investigating potential measles exposure at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport. Residents who traveled through the airport recently are advised to monitor themselves for symptoms such as high fever, cough, and a persistent rash. Health officials strongly recommend that all residents verify their immunization records.
- Keenan Health Center Update: The Keenan STI Clinic, which has been temporarily closed for updates, is expected to reopen its doors to the public this month. Residents seeking immediate services are encouraged to contact the health department’s central information line for referrals to alternative care sites during the final stages of the reopening process.
- Warming Shelter Availability: In response to the persistent winter temperatures, the city and county continue to operate emergency warming shelters. Residents in need of a safe, climate-controlled environment or connection to social services are urged to dial 211 for current shelter locations and availability.
Public Works and Infrastructure
The Department of Public Works (DPW) reminds residents of ongoing traffic impacts and seasonal requirements:
- Winter Parking Regulations: Standard winter parking rules remain in effect through March 1, 2026. Overnight parking is prohibited on through-highways and designated bus routes between 2:00 AM and 6:00 AM. Motorists are reminded that posted street signs always take precedence and should be checked before parking to avoid citations or towing.
- 27th Street Viaduct Closure: Significant maintenance work on the 27th Street Viaduct continues. The bridge is closed to all traffic for an extended period, and commuters are advised to plan for detours and allow extra travel time during the morning and evening rush hours.
