Milwaukee Health Department Restores Critical Services at Keenan Center

Today, Thursday, February 19, 2026, Milwaukee city officials are marking a significant milestone in public health with the official reopening of the Sexual and Reproductive Health clinic at the Keenan Health Center. The Milwaukee Health Department has scheduled a media availability for 10:00 a.m. this morning to celebrate the restoration of these services, which have been unavailable since a temporary closure in November due to staffing shortages. Mayor Cavalier Johnson, who has championed the reopening as a necessity for a healthy city, praised the intensive recruitment and staffing stabilization efforts that led to today’s event.

The reopening is viewed as a foundational step in the Mayor’s broader health and safety agenda for 2026. Health Commissioner Mike Totoraitis is expected to provide details during the press conference regarding the new clinical team and the long-term operational changes implemented to ensure the clinic remains a stable resource for city residents. The facility, located at the Keenan Health Center, will once again offer essential testing, treatment, and prevention services starting today.

Redevelopment Authority Weighs Major Tax Incremental Financing Districts

At 1:30 p.m. today, the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Milwaukee (RACM) is convening in the First Floor Boardroom at 809 North Broadway for a session dominated by large-scale housing and development proposals. As part of Mayor Johnson's “Year of Housing” initiative, the authority is scheduled to vote on several key resolutions involving Tax Incremental Financing (TIF) districts. Highlighting the agenda are:

  • A first amendment to the Project Plan for TIF District No. 127, specifically targeting the 100 East Wisconsin development.
  • The formal adoption of boundaries and project plans for TIF District No. 130, known as the VIA project.
  • The approval of a project plan for TIF District No. 131, referred to as FORMA.

These projects are designed to stimulate neighborhood stability and increase the city’s residential density. The board will also consider the termination of record for several obsolete redevelopment plans as part of an effort to modernize the city’s land-use documentation.

Public Works and Safety Committees Tackle Infrastructure

The legislative calendar is also packed with committee sessions at City Hall. The Public Works Committee met early this morning at 9:00 a.m. to discuss ongoing road reconstruction projects, including the upcoming major improvements to National Avenue and Lisbon Avenue. These projects aim to reduce traffic fatalities through the implementation of protected bike lanes and traffic-calming measures.

Later this evening, the Fire and Police Commission will hold a dual session starting with an executive meeting at 4:30 p.m., followed by a regular session at 5:30 p.m. in Room 301-A of City Hall. The commission is expected to review departmental updates and public safety action plans as the city continues its focus on reducing reckless driving and enhancing neighborhood security.
