Public Health Alert: Measles Exposure Monitoring

The City of Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) is currently investigating a confirmed measles exposure linked to a traveler at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport. The exposure is connected to Southwest Airlines Flight WN 266, which arrived from Phoenix on January 29. Health officials advise that any individuals who were on that flight, or present in the airport between 10:31 p.m. on January 29 and 12:31 a.m. on January 30, should monitor themselves for symptoms until February 19, 2026.

Symptoms of measles include a high fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes, typically followed by a red rash. Residents who are not vaccinated with the MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine are at the highest risk. If you develop symptoms, the Health Department requests that you contact your healthcare provider by phone before arriving in person to prevent further spread.

Election Commission Notice: Spring Election Preparation

The Milwaukee Election Commission has confirmed that there will be no municipal primary election held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. Because no local races featured more than two qualifying candidates, all contests will proceed directly to the Spring General Election. Voters should now focus on the upcoming April 7, 2026, election, which will feature races for the Wisconsin Supreme Court and the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors.

Residents are encouraged to check their registration status now. The deadline to register online or by mail for the April election is March 18, though in-person registration remains available at the municipal clerk’s office until April 3. Early voting is scheduled to begin on March 24.

Public Works: Winter Parking Regulations

As of mid-February, winter parking regulations remain in full effect throughout the City of Milwaukee. Unless otherwise posted, alternate side night parking is required on all residential streets between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. This means vehicles must be parked on the even-numbered side of the street on even-numbered calendar days and the odd-numbered side on odd-numbered days.

Residents are also reminded that overnight parking is strictly prohibited on through highways and bus routes until March 1. In the event of a declared snow emergency, these hours are extended from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., and failure to comply may result in citations ranging from $50 to $150 or vehicle towing.

City Service Updates: Health Clinics and Council Schedule

  • Keenan STI Clinic: The City Health Department expects the Keenan STI Clinic to reopen this month following a temporary closure for administrative updates. Residents seeking services in the interim should visit the Northwest Health Center or Southside Health Center.
  • Common Council: Following the most recent session on February 10, the next regularly scheduled meeting of the Milwaukee Common Council will take place on Monday, February 23, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. in the Common Council Chambers at City Hall.
