A Cultural Tuesday in the Cream City

Despite the chill of late January, Milwaukee is bustling with activity this Tuesday, January 27, 2026. From the high-energy stages of the Theater District to the quiet reflection of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, there is a diverse array of events for residents and visitors alike. Whether you are looking for world-class theater, community benefits, or a unique look at local history, today offers something for everyone.

Theater and Performance Arts

The spotlight tonight shines brightest on the Marcus Performing Arts Center, where the revolutionary Broadway hit Hamilton continues its limited run. This epic saga of Alexander Hamilton, told through a blend of hip-hop, jazz, and R&B, remains a must-see theatrical landmark. Evening performances provide a perfect mid-week cultural escape in the heart of downtown.

Just a few blocks away, the Milwaukee Repertory Theater offers two distinct and compelling productions. In the Checota Powerhouse Theater, The Lehman Trilogy takes audiences on an epic 163-year journey following the rise and fall of a global financial empire. It is a three-and-a-half-hour tour-de-force featuring three actors playing dozens of roles. Meanwhile, at the Stackner Cabaret, The Fisherman’s Daughters provides a more intimate, heartwarming musical experience that celebrates Wisconsin’s own heritage and the deep connections between family, community, and the land.

Exhibitions and Community Events

Today also marks a significant part of Milwaukee Museum Days 2026, an annual city-wide celebration running through February 1. This event encourages locals to explore the city’s rich history and art with special admission prices and themed programming. While some institutions may observe traditional Tuesday closures, the Haggerty Museum of Art remains active with ongoing exhibitions such as "Declaration of ____" and "Defying Empire," which explores revolutionary prints from Britain and America.

For those interested in unique horticulture and community support, the Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory is hosting its 2026 Train Show, titled Modern Wonders in the Dome. Visitors can view intricate model trains winding through displays of the world's greatest architectural marvels. Additionally, the Indeed We Can benefit takes place today at Indeed Brewing Company from 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM. A portion of the proceeds from the taproom tonight will go directly to supporting the Milwaukee Domes Alliance.

Learning, Leisure, and Remembrance

For those looking to expand their palate, Ray’s Wine and Spirits in Wauwatosa is hosting a specialized wine class titled "One of These Things Is Not Like the Other: Same Varietal, Different World." Starting at 6:30 PM, participants will explore how different regions and climates impact the same grape varietals. For a more active evening, local community centers are hosting various classes including intermediate reformer pilates and open play sessions.

As the sun sets, the city will take a moment for solemn reflection. In honor of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the Daniel M. Hoan Memorial Bridge and several prominent downtown buildings will be illuminated in yellow. This display, part of the "Light Up America Yellow" coalition, marks the 81st anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. The bridge lights will turn on approximately 30 minutes before sunset and remain a beacon of remembrance until the early morning hours.
