Brewers rally for six runs in eighth to beat White Sox 9-7, complete opening sweep

Milwaukee erases a five-run deficit late at American Family Field
The Milwaukee Brewers opened the 2026 regular season by sweeping a three-game set against the Chicago White Sox, closing the series with a 9–7 comeback victory on Sunday, March 29, at American Family Field. The Brewers entered the day 2–0 and left 3–0, while the White Sox fell to 0–3.
The game turned on a six-run Milwaukee eighth inning that flipped a 7–3 deficit into a 9–7 lead. Christian Yelich’s three-run home run in the inning provided the decisive margin, finishing a rally that included multiple run-scoring singles before the homer.
White Sox strike early with Montgomery grand slam
Chicago’s offense set the tone immediately. Shortstop Colson Montgomery hit a grand slam in the first inning, putting the White Sox up 4–0 before Milwaukee recorded an out. Montgomery finished with five RBIs, accounting for the majority of Chicago’s scoring in a game that also featured a solo home run by first baseman Munetaka Murakami and a third-inning solo shot by outfielder Eddys Leonard Pereira.
Milwaukee answered quickly in the bottom of the first. Catcher Sánchez homered to left, a two-run shot that cut the deficit to 4–2. But Chicago continued to add on in the second and third innings, building a 7–2 lead.
Milwaukee chips away, then capitalizes late
The Brewers’ comeback began with incremental scoring. A sixth-inning RBI single by Garrett Lockridge brought Milwaukee closer, and the Brewers kept the game within reach into the late innings.
In the eighth, Milwaukee mounted its decisive surge. A Brice Turang RBI single made it 7–4, followed by a Luis Rengifo two-run single that narrowed the gap to one. Yelich then homered to right for a three-run blast that pushed the Brewers in front 9–7.
